Boost Your Child’s Learning: Identifying and Filling Learning Gaps

Half way through the year and your child is struggling. Are you up to the challenge?

Did you know that student’s performance levels are lower than they were before 2020? According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) middle school students in Colorado show a bigger gap in performance levels on the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) than other grades.

You don’t have to be an educator to know that your child is struggling. How do you figure out where the problem lies? One minute they’re doing fine and the next minute they are totally lost.

Think of it this way. Learning is like building blocks, one lesson builds upon another. But what happens when your child misses a day, or a week? What happens to a child when the school shuts down for a year and he’s learning on his own?

Everyone may be learning the same thing but if your child misses something she is at a disadvantage, not because she isn’t as smart, but because she has a gap in her learning.

They are not alone in this. Many are struggling but each child is different. Where one child has a gap in one area, another is missing in a different area. There may be many gaps in different subjects.

The good news is it can be fixed! The key is to identify where the gaps are.

We can then focus on the specific area of learning needed. This accelerates the process. What’s amazing is that the brain can gather even more information and hold onto it while the child catches up. Once the gap is filled the child quickly aligns his learning with the new information and is able to advance quickly.

Homework Aids can evaluate your child to identify gaps in several subjects to eliminate the guess work and accelerate their level of learning.

By doing an evaluation, we identified a student’s grade level performance was below average. When all others determined he didn’t have the ability to learn higher math, we were able to use 5-minute math exercises to help him gain quick wins to achieve his higher goals!

Another second grader accelerated her performance with just one of our 5-minute exercises to eliminate finger-counting!
